Asia Cup 2025 – Showpiece of Political Rivalries

Brushing asides controversies, everyone will remember Asia Cup 2025 as one of the worst possible showpieces of politics in the name of cricket in Dubai. The nail-biting finish of the final between the arch rivals India and Pakistan has become the pillion rider in the entire Asia Cup Cricket because of such political fiasco.

Mohsin Naqvi and Surya Kumar Yadav had become instrumental in propagating the political messages and rivalries which will spread its far-reaching tentacles.

Surya’s speech in the Prize distribution ceremony further endorsed the no handshakes chapter between the players in the Indo-Pak match; where he dedicated the victory to the Indian army and victims of Pahalgam terror attack.

Naqvi, the chairman of Asian cricket council, started hackling the Indian cricketers in various ways. Team India refused to take trophy from Naqvi as he is a member of Pakistan cabinet. Surya Kumar could become the face, but it’s apparent that the politics of New Delhi played a pivotal role behind the scene.

All these videos have become viral and have got popular applause from the Indian viewers.

Naqvi – The Blatant Role in Asia Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board under the leadership of Naqvi demanded the removal of Andy Pycroft; the match referee over the handshake controversies; but International Cricket Council (ICC) blatantly refused.  An array of Mohsin Naqvi’s controversial behaviors staged in the middle during the entire cup.

Finally, PCB’s Naqvi earned the accusation of stealing the trophy. This may sound absurd, but it remains the fact of life. Imagine of the Irony; Naqvi is not only the ACC Chairman, he chairs PCB and interior minister of Pakistan Government too. Pakistan captain Salman Agha congratulated India with a dollop of sarcasm in his voice.

Amid all this drama, the glory of cricket was tainted by these political pawns.
