Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M)
The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI (M), is a major left-wing political force in India. It ruled West Bengal for 34 uninterrupted years (1977-2011) and has also governed Kerala and Tripura at different times, shaping policies around land reforms, workers’ rights, and social equity. CPI (M) played a key decision-making role in supporting UPA governments at the Centre. Though it has now been ousted from all three states, the party continues to remain firmly rooted in its ideological principles.
