Mamata Banerjee and central agencies

Rebel Mamata Banerjee and Central Agencies

The West Bengal commoners now seldom bother for the pseudo fight between Rebel Mamata Banerjee and Central agencies. It has become such a recurring event that people have started rather relishing them.

Indeed, the central agencies like CBI, ED or Income Tax become more proactive against the opposition leaders. And they have hackled some top-notch leaders. Critics cites the name of Hemant Soren, Arvind Kejriwal as a few examples of agency harassment. The Supreme Court had termed CBI as the “cage parrot”.

In contrast, they have never taken such drastic steps against the Harish Chatterjee Street or the office of the Carmack Street.

Now the fights with EC has added a new dimension.

Hyper-active before elections

In fact,  the central agencies become highly active before each election; allegedly to trouble the rhythm of the opposition key faces. Critics allege that if any opposition leader switches the party and joins BJP, the same agencies stop chasing them any further.

Ajit Power, Eknath Shinde, Hemanta Biswasharma, Suvendu Adhikary are some of the names against whom CBI has become inactive.

It has also raised eyebrows of critics after attending a marathon CBI interrogation in Delhi; Abhishek Bandyopadhyay came out and started firing Congress office. Nobody knows the news behind the curtain.  The fact of life remains that the central agencies have not taken any harsh action.

Rebel Mamata Banerjee targets EC

The state recently watched a fight when the Election Commission of India (EC) asked to take punitive action against a few officers involved in polling work. Mamata Banerjee in her usual tone primed that no action would be taken as they are not the employees of the election commission. It is really unprecedented for one chief minister to lash upon another constitutional machinery.

Finally, we saw, the Delhi Bureau summoned the chief secretary, Manoj Panth. The situation changed and the vehement West Bengal Government agreed to abide by the EC.

At the initiation stage of discussions regarding Special Intensive Review (SIR), the ever Rebel Mamata Banerjee started shouting in public forums that she would not allow SIR in West Bengal. The news reports reveal that the Election Commission has already imparted training to a large number of Booth Level Officers.

The reliable source divulges that SIR is going to start very soon in the state. So, the battle between Mamata and Central agencies continues.

Election Commission of India

Suddenly the West Bengal Chief Rebel Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that central agencies are harassing businessmen across the country.

She had also gone to the extent of saying that the central agencies have started targeting her family also. If the central Government wishes to harass due to political vendetta, she can approach the courts without trembling in fear. Meanwhile, worthy mentioning that the West Bengal Government has perhaps filed the record number of cases in the Supreme Court.

Attack on Central Agencies: BSF & Army

The battle between Mamata and Central Agencies had gone to worst during the Murshidabad riots, she had a scathing attack on BSF. She has not left Army also.  In September, 2025, when the army began dismantling TMC bult up stage to demonstrate a Dharna because of alleged atrocities against Bengali-speaking migrant workers.

The climax was When Rebel Mamata Banerjee arrived at the site, the jawans “beat a retreat”. And she claimed that “200 army personnel ran from the site.”

However, this enchanting slogan of political Vendetta and the clashes between Rebel Mamata and the central agencies will be cherished by all of us when the age apace will come to us.
