Mamata Banerjee with anti-CPM stance in West Bengal

Attention-seeking Extraordinary Mamata Banerjee

Absolute and uncompromising anti-CPM stance has brought Extraordinary Mamata Banerjee into the limelight. Moreover, her modest lifestyle and ‘girl next door’ attitude earned immense popularity.

People used to consider Mamata Banerjee to be like one of their own family members. She made a point of going to the kitchens of West Bengal so people wouldn’t hesitate to treat her like a close fellow rather than an outsider.

She popularized the coinage “Watermelon Politics.”. The former Congress leaders were called “Watermelons,” meaning their exterior was green (the color of the Congress party), but their interior was red (the symbolic color of the CPM).

The reports reveal that the leaders like Somen Mitra, Subrata Mukherjee used to maintain a close relationship with the-then Chief Minister, Late Jyoti Basu. In fact there had been rumors that even the Congress at the center was soft to the CPM.

However, Genuine anti-CPM sentiment was duly adorned by the public, who had been annoyed against the authoritarian rule of CPM. She had been able to intelligently brought them under the umbrella and she proved herself as the real face of Bengal, who can thwart CPM.

She had staged a lot of drama during the CPM regime and she had brutally attacked at times. But one thing remains constant that she has remained attention-seeking. Critics say that she used to call the media before executing any of her plans.

Extraordinary Mamata Banerjee as Chief Minister

However, much water has flown down the Ganges and she has been able to fulfill her core dream of becoming the Chief Minister. Even now, Extraordinary Mamata Banerjee can not change her attitude of Self-aggrandizing.

There was a time when large hoardings featuring Mamata Banerjee and the slogan “Sototar Protik” (Symbol of Honesty) dominated the city of Kolkata. One could notice such boastful hoardings through out the bypasses and even in various parts of West Bengal.

With the time, her government has become corruption-ridden. There have been several calamities and a series of molestations.

Instead of Good governance, Extraordinary Mamata Banerjee has gifted the people  with anarchy and full of authoritarian ruling.  The set of top-notch officials and ministers have found themselves in the jails.

Those “Sototar Protik” hoarding are not visible any more.

Now, she conducts Government meetings in public and draws attention of the public. She often calls press conferences, but it is alleged that only her pet-journalists are called.

Whether it is the distribution of relief in the flood victim areas or a compensation to the families of the deceased, Mamata Banerjee remains under the beam light.

She wants to ensure that her photo should come as the headlines everywhere. Undoubtedly, Mamata Banerjee, even at this age works very hard but the intent remains to retain the focus.

Future of West Bengal

Her obsession with publicity may give Extraordinary Mamata Banerjee immense pleasure, but West Bengal is sinking as a result. A state where chaos has replaced development, institutional corruption has taken the place of good governance, and the spirit of hard work has been replaced by the tendency of out-migration of young people.

Where is the future of West Bengal heading?
