Attacks on women: Uluberia

The incident happened at Uluberia Government Hospital. A pregnant woman from Kharia Maynapur had been admitted to Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Medical College and Hospital with several medical complications. During a routine check-up, a junior doctor could not manage the case and called her senior for help.

On October 20, the two attendants with the patient started arguing with the doctor. The situation quickly turned violent. The duo allegedly created chaos, abused the doctor, slapped her, twisted her hand, and even threatened to molest her outside the hospital.

The police arrived quickly, preventing what could have been another horrible incident like the R.G. Kar case. Notably, one of the accused is a home guard who works in the police department.

Other attacks on women

In a separate incident, there had been a  molestation  on a homemaker in Maynaguri, North Bengal, inside her home on October 17. The perpetrators threatened the victim of death if she disclosed the assault. Police have arrested three men in connection with the crime.

Meanwhile, in Alipore, South 24 Parganas, a minor girl was found hanging inside a wardrobe on Sunday. Her family found her unconscious and tried to revive her, but she did not survive.

Another case of molestation involving an adolescent in Bhangar has also surfaced.

A shocking news came from NCRB report, where the reveals that West Bengal tops the list for Acid Attacks on girls. West Bengal alone accounted for 27.5 % of all acid attacks in the country.

In a short span, attacks on women dominated the headlines. Uluberia Hospital, Maynaguri, Alipore, and Bhangar reported the latest cases. The new NCRB report has made the situation even more alarming.

Regaining its Glory

West Bengal was once a beacon of learning, reform, and modernity. Now the accolades shower upon the state for corruption, financial fraudulence, attacks on women, violence and cut-money culture. The lawlessness is evident in every corner and every sphere of the state.

How long will this decay continue? When will Bengal reclaim its lost conscience?
