Mamata Banerjee Governance: Unlock the myths

Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal and Nitish Kumar in Bihar

Mamata Banerjee Governance Vs Nitish Kumar Governance

While Nitish Kumar ruled Bihar for 20 years, his popularity is still at its peak. In contrast, Mamata Banerjee has lost much of her popularity in Mamata Banerjee Governance during just 15 years. Although, his frequent political flip-flops to remain Chief Minister will be remembered.

Notably, even after two decades in power in Bihar, Nitish Kumar’s popularity continues to soar. This enduring popularity stands as a symbol of development and inclusivity. Let’s try to look at the key differences.

Principles of Nitish Kumar in Bihar and Mamata Banerjee Governance

Immediately after assuming the office Nitish Kumar has focused on reshuffling his bureaucrats. He essentially focused on efficiency instead of subservience. On the contrary, Mamata Banerjee has always preferred the Subservient bureaucrats. Mamata Banerjee Governance has emphasized on the compliant officers, who would work as per her choices and whims.

Nitish Kumar had started arresting the criminals indiscriminating party colors and sent them to the jail. He had introduced fast track courts. Subsequently, He had also invested huge budget for development of jail infrastructure.

Mamata Banerjee allegedly went to a police station to rescue some of the arrested party hooligans. Such Acts has not only energized the criminals but also brought down the morale of the entire police force.

R K Pachananda had to face the wrath when he ordered for arresting Mohammod Iqbal, on a murder of police during a college election. Damayanti Sen faced a punitive transfer because she refused to toe Mamata Banerjee’s line. This happened during the handling of the Park Street molestation case.

The debate remains ever-ending whether a pliant official is good for the Government or a strong-willed official.

But such indulgences have forced the police force to lose their courage and morale in Mamata Banerjee Governance

Liquor: Societal impact or Revenue resources

Nitish Kumar has implemented a liquor ban in Bihar but earned the gratitude of lakhs of women abused by drunkard husbands. On the contrary, Mamata Banerjee has increased the sanction of licenses of liquor shops through out West Bengal just for the shake of revenue. Some recent molestation and massacre have taken places in the states by the drunken perpetrators.

Infrastructure in Mamata Banerjee Governance and Bihar

Nitish Kumar has clearly emphasized on development of infrastructure in Bihar. Paved village roads or drinking water facilities for rural belts did not escape his notice. Mamata Banerjee had initially focused on roads in West Bengal, but hardly bothered for their proper maintenance.

Mamata Banerjee has focused on aesthetic improvements of the state at the expense of state revenue. However, critics have raised serious allegations of corruption over the blue-and-white coloring. Some have also questioned the use of ‘Trifala’ lights for beautification.

Mamata Banerjee Governance

Nitish Kumar has always attempted to the social beneficiary schemes with the development. Mamata Banerjee’s governance has launched several social welfare schemes. However, it provides cash transfers without linking them to development outcomes.

The cherished battle of Mamata Banerjee with the center has stopped the MGNREKA. Pradhan Montri Gramin Sorok Jojona or Pradhanmontri Abas Jojona have been hindered in West Bengal due to alleged corruptions.

Nitish Kumar, even after his reign of 20 years is free from any stigma of corruptions.

In contrast Mamata Banerjee and her family members have been facing allegations of corruptions continuously.

Education: Mamata Banerjee vs Nitish Kumar

Bihar has noticed an undeniable success in the realm of school education and healthcare, at least at the primary level in the era of Nitish Kumar. On the contrary, the primary schools have faced closures in large numbers and even the recruitment scam has battered the overall education department. Mamata Banerjee remains a silent spectator.

Another key difference is that Nitish Kumar hardly exhibits his proud, but Mamata Banerjee is self-aggrandizing.

The fate of Nitish Kumar will be clear on 14th November, 2025, but we have to wait to see whether the people of West Bengal bring her back to power for the fourth time in a row.
