CSK exhibits their elite class against disintegrating MI

No wonder CSK are the all time favorites in Pepsi IPL since its commencement and they reiterated this truth by negating MI with a tremendous seven wicket win in match 13 played on April 25, 2014 at Dubai. Mohit Sharma may not have had an up to the mark performancein the ICC WT20 for team India but is was his match all the way. He claimed four wickets of MI to contain them within 141 for seven in their stipulated 20 overs. Rohit Sharma the MI skipper won the toss and selected to give a chance to his players to set up a good total for reputed CSK to chase down. The MI opener Michael Hussey seemed to in a hurry as he left at 1 in the second over itself. Then just as Aditya Tare on 23 was trying to flourish through his smashing strokes Mohit struck to leave MI on 25 for two in 4.4 overs. Corey Anderson and Rohit Sharma commenced the repair work with efficiency bringing up the team 100 in the 15th over. The run out of Anderson on 39 was a set back from which MI did not have time or balls to recover. Hilfenhaus came back to get rid of Rohit Sharma on 50 in the 18th over with the scorecard reading 123 for four. Then in the 19th over of the MI innings, the most favorable for CSK that completely turned things around as Mohit Sharma bowled gaining three wickets from it. The CSK pacer scalped Ambati Rayudu, 1, Kieron Pollard, 12 and Harbhajan Singh, 0. This middle order collapse saw MI lose four wickets for four runs in the space of eight balls. Hilfenhaus claimed two wickets while Ishwar Pandey and Ashwin bowled at a below six economy rate in their four over spells. MI folded up their innings for a modest 141. The CSK chase was led by Brendon McCullum who remained unbeaten on 71 and his indomitable team mates who made short work of the target set up by the defending champions MI. McCullum was ably supported by Dwayne Smith who put up another of his glitzy performance. Dwayne, 29 struck three early sixes to put pressure on the MI bowlers but lost his wicket to a tough running catch off Pragyan Ojha. CSK lucky to squeeze past RR in a low scoring match 10

Captain RR Shane Watson chose to field first after winning the toss in match 10 that was played in Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai yesterday on April 23, 2014. With this match the Pepsi IPL 7 reached its half way stage in its leg in UAE. CSK immediately set off to blast away the RR bowlers so as not to leave even a slight opportunity to their advantage. Dwayne Smith assumed a smashing temperament taking the RR bowlers to the cleaners while his more vibrant partner Brendon McCullum perished at a lowly 6. Smith went on to score 50 which however seemed inappropriate to his mood as he could not consolidate his innings leaving CSK struggling on 59 for two in 7.2 overs. Suresh Raina fizzled out at 4 and Faf du Plessis was run out at 7, all within a couple of overs. RR bowlers made a comeback and so MS Dhoni faltered on 5 with Pravin Tambe’s leg-spin making it 72 for the loss of five wickets with around 8 overs left. Ravindra Jadeja and Mithun Manhas then set about revamping the innings to take CSK to a presentable total. The pair added 27 runs off 22 balls when Manhas was dismissed by Bhatia who scalped two CSK batsmen. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 36 and got into a stand with Ashwin that yielded 39 runs. CSK somehow got to 140 for six in their 20 overs with the match completely being under the control of the RR bowlers except in the initial overs and sporadic hitting. RR bowling seemed to have checked the usual flair of the CSK batsmen who are usually at their flourishing best and never wary of posting enormous totals for their opposition to chase down. The RR batsmen however never could take up the advantage that was gained by their dominant bowlers Faulkner, Bhatia, Binny and Tambe. RR started off their run chase of a below par total with a tumble as Abhishek Nayar was run-out on 5 by a brilliant McCullum in the second over. Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson of RR collected the innings by hitting all over the ground to garner 27 runs for the second wicket. Ashwin forced Rahane on 15 to hole out in the deep to Manhas. Watson was out for 7 failing to play a captain’s knock at a critical junction to Jadeja who delivery the gods for CSK. Samson followed suit on 16 as RR let the match spin out of control. Binny got 8,...
