Success of Prakash Karat
The glorious history of CPI(M) has always magnetized a segment of people and each of their activities have been tested under the microscopic lenses of many. People are serious enough in analyzing the ideology of the communist party of India and the way of implementation in several governmental procedures.
Indians are really fortunate to get stalwarts like EMS, Harkishen Singh Surjit, Dange, Randive, Promod Dasgupta, Jyoti basu and some more, who have shown valiant efforts to increase the magnitude of the party.
Undoubtedly communists of India had been reckoned for their ideologies, dedication, sacrifices and moreover their abilities. Brushing asides controversies, whether communists can really create a difference in administering a state in India, the fact of life remains that the people have entrusted the responsibility of ruling the states several times.
Communists have been ruling West Bengal continuously for more than three decades and they have been ruling Tripura and Kerala in several terms.
Prakash Karat has taken over from Surjeet in such a condition, when the party is running the government in three states. The parliamentary elections of May 2009 has lead to a formidable disaster in 2 major states namely West Bengal and Tripura. It may be termed as a mandate for stability or even the electoral might be driven by the anti incumbency factors, but who can deny the ability of the leadership that leads to such a disaster?
It is Prakash Karat and his think tank, who have been continuously shaking the party’s base by their several immature and non-pragmatic activities.
The fact of life remains that the decay had started a long back, when his dogmatic attitude had withdrawn the support from the Congress-led government. Perhaps his day dream of forming a coalition government by the smaller parties has become the final nail in the coffin. With due respect to all ideologies we must remind that it is the result that can prove the sanctity of such ideologies.
The success of Prakash Karat, the general secretary of CPI (M) remains in proving the eternal fact of life, that mere ideology can never earn the bread and butter for the people.
Rather, such ideologies don’t take much time to be termed as idiotic. History remembers people for their acts. Prakash Karat will be surely remembered in the history of communist party, but may be as that ideological leader, who had only laid down the prestigious communist party in all fronts.
