Polling in Tamil Nadu touched 62% on April 24

Polling in Tamil Nadu touched 62% on April 24 by 3 pm IST. Tamil Nadu saw actor Ajith and his wife Shalini vote for Lok Sabha elections at Palavakkam, ECR. M. Karunakaran and N. Jayadevi casting their vote for the first time at Nungambakkam. V. Ganesan and actor Kamal Hassan casting their vote in Alwarpet in Chennai. Actor Sarathkumar and his wife Radika voted at Palavakkam, ECR. CM J Jayalalithaa, DMK president M. Karunanidhi, DMDK founder Vijayakant, MDMK leader Vaiko, D Raja and D Pandian of CPI were all seen to cast their votes.
Polling crossed the 60 percent mark by 3 PM IST in the single phase Lok Sabha elections to 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu on April 24. Around 5.50 crore voters were supposed to have exercised their democratic right from Tamil Nadu to select their lawmakers from among the 845 candidates in the fray.

While Chennai North recorded 50.4 per cent turnout, Chennai South recorded 49.3 per cent and Central Chennai 48.55 per cent polling, respectively. CM Jayalalithaa appealed to the voters and political parties to cooperate with the Election Commission so that the elections could be free, fair and peaceful. The ruling AIADMK, DMK and the BJP led six party alliance are the main contestants for the Lok Sabha constituencies. Polling took place peacefully in Tiruchi, Kunnam, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Virudhunagar. The only problem that seems to have risen was the malfunctioning of the EVM at several booths. After the rectification of this widespread problem polling had continued as usual.
