Jwala Gutta pulls out of Asian Games

It is a blow for the Indian contingent participating in the Asian Games later this month that ace Indian women’s doubles player Jwala Gutta has pulled out. She has done so after sustaining a sprain in the right knee ahead of the Asiad in Incheon, Korea. The World Championship bronze medalist, Jwala developed a pain in her right knee. She was advised complete rest for the next two weeks by her doctor. She had sprained her knee during practice for the Asian Games 2014. The knee had swollen and now needs to be rested for 10-12 days which left her no other option but to withdraw from the Asian Games. Jwala added that it was the first time that she had withdrawn from a tournament due to injury in her career. She has won gold and silver at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games respectively. Jwala’s game and experience will be solely missed by the Indian women’s team at Incheon. She has been unable to exert any weight on the injured knee hoping to be fit for the European circuit next year.
